Harmony Kent’s Hot New Release: INTERLUDES 2

Ciao, amici! For those of us in the northern hemisphere, it’s been a hot summer. But I’m about to turn up the heat today, and you won’t be sorry!

Please join me in welcoming Harmony Kent back to the site. She’s here to talk about her latest release, Interludes 2, her second anthology of erotic short stories. I know you’ll help me give her a warm welcome.

Thanks so much for having me over at your place today, Staci.

Hi everyone. It’s great to be visiting with you all.

While I’m here, I’d like to talk about my latest book, Interludes 2. This is a book of short erotic romance fiction. As with the original Interludes (which you can find HERE), the book contains 10 short stories, with the first tale totaling 1,000 words, the second one totaling 2,000, and so on up to 10,000 words in the final story.

For each story, I used prompt cards from a great creative tool called Storymatic.  Here’s what the set gave me to work with:

A) person with a grudge
B) storm chaser
C) practical joker

conflict = flat tire

A and B relate to the main character. C relates to the secondary character. And the final prompt gives us the conflict.

From the above set of prompts, I came up with Storm Chaser—a ménage à trois in 2000 words.

A sabotaged tire. A raging storm. Passion mounts.

Excerpt from Storm Chaser:

Jo kicked the tire with a muttered curse. Flat. She peered at the offending rubber more closely. Not just deflated but knifed. Somebody had sabotaged her armoured vehicle deliberately. Arred. It had to be. Nobody else hated her quite that much.

The wind whipped around her, merciless in its assault, and grit stung her cheeks. A dark smudge on the horizon raised the hairs on her neck. The storm was headed this way, and fast. To emphasise the urgency of her situation, one of the onboard alarms blared, and a red light flashed on the dash. Even as she stood there, indecisive, more warnings lit the panel and nurp-nurp-nurped at her already atrocious headache.

A choking cloud of dust and dirt heralded the arrival of her support teams—two old Dodge pickups that had seen better days. She and her small team of two had to find shelter soon. The wind threw a gust at her that rocked her on her feet. Jo had to grab the bull bar to stay upright.

Bobby dropped from the cab and dashed to her side. He had to yell to make himself heard over the howls and screams of the rising gale. Jo leaned into the meagre shelter that his stocky six-foot-three provided. ‘You got a flat?’

Jo pursed her lips and shook her head. ‘Someone slit the tire.’

I had so much fun writing this one, and I hope you’ve enjoyed this little teaser. I’d love to hear what you think via the comments at the bottom of the page. Thanks for stopping by.

This one seems like it would appeal to not only erotica readers, but also to thriller readers. A pending storm. A slashed tire. A six-foot three-inch hunk to the rescue.

Well, that last one isn’t exactly a thriller trope. Still, it sounds like a heart-pounding story. I know my curiosity’s piqued, and I hope yours is, too. So interesting to learn about how you get your writing ideas. I too have used prompts in the past – it’s amazing how your crative juices can get sparked sometimes, isn’t it?!
Great showcase, Staci – I’m going to add Interludes to my TBR pile 😉

    1. I never used prompts until recent years, and now I swear by them. And it never fails to amaze me how many different stories/genres we can get from just one prompt. So glad you like the sound of the ideas and the book. Sorry about your growing TBR pile! Thanks, Jessica 🙂

  3. Congratulations, Harmony. I pre-ordered earlier this month and cannot wait to read Interludes II. Using prompt cards is a novel approach, which adds even more intrigue to the collection. Thank you, Staci, for featuring Harmony. ♥
