Ciao, amici! You know how much I love having authors share news on my site. Today I have the privilege of hosting a repeat visitor—Harmony Kent! Harmony is not only a multi-genre author, she’s a colleague at Story Empire as well as a treasured friend. I hope you’ll join me in giving her a warm welcome. She’s here to talk about her new release, and then I have a surprise at the end.
But first, here’s Harmony…
Hi, everyone. Harmony here. Many thanks to Staci for hosting me today. I have a new book on pre-order called FALLOUT, which is a post-apocalyptic dystopia. This novel started out life by playing a little game. I sat and closed my eyes and imagined an empty room … in that room, a vial appeared. A dull orange plastic thing covered in scratches. It sloshed when I shook it. From that tiny beginning, the world of Exxon 1 and its deadly virus was born.
How did the virus escape the labs with all spill protocols engaged?
Why would the lab assistant release it on purpose?
About FALLOUT:

WHEN EVERYTHING FALLS APART, WHAT CAN YOU DO?
The year is 3040.
The location is Exxon 1, part of a six-planet system in settled space.
Determined to avoid the mistakes of old Earth, the surviving humans avoided democracy and opted, instead, for a non-elective totalitarian system.
The new way worked well, until now.
A crazy, despotic president releases a nano-virus on the population.
No one was ready for the fallout. It came anyway.
In this post-apocalyptic world, can you stay safe?
Excerpt:
After staring for a full three seconds at the substance seeping across the floor, Ellie jerked to attention and clicked her fingers.
‘Everyone, out. Now. Quick.’
The lab emptied faster than the box of chocolates Sasha had given the nurses in thanks for looking after her parents. As soon as they’d opened it and put it on the nurse’s station, hands snatched and mouths gobbled until nothing remained but colourful screwed up wrappers.
The utilitarian room looked like that emptied box now. Half finished projects littered the counters, while pens along with sheaves of paper filled with scribbled notes lay scattered on the floor.
FALLOUT releases on August 25.

About Harmony:

After spending around thirteen years as an ordained Buddhist monk, living in a Zen Buddhist temple, and six years after a life-changing injury following a surgical error, Harmony Kent returned to the world at the tender age of forty.
Now, she is famous for her laughter, and has made quite the name for herself … she’s also, um, a writer … and fairly well known for that too. She’s even won a few awards. Harmony lives in rural Cornwall with her ever-present sense of humour, adorable husband, and quirky neighbours.
Harmony is passionate about supporting her fellow authors.

We Story Empire authors talk about our projects with each other, so I knew this was coming before you did. And not only have I already preordered my copy, I got an advanced look. So… surprise! Here are my thoughts.
My Review:
The Title Says it All; There’s Fallout!
I’ve been in sci-fi mode recently, and Fallout caught my attention. I’ve enjoyed other works by this author and was eager to give this story a try.
This story reminded me of a space-version of The Casual Vacancy—political power is up for grabs and everyone is keeping secrets. The duplicity is multi-layered and deliciously dark. Every time I thought someone had hit rock bottom, I was surprised to find another twist.
Exxon 1 is part futuristic, part dystopian, and all fascinating. The author created a world of advanced technology, tragic consequences, and complex subterfuge that kept me wondering until the very end.
If you like dark, dangerous, and a little bit demented, this is the novel for you.
I hope you enjoyed this look at Harmony’s new release. Now, how about wishing Harmony well and using those social media buttons to share her good news? Grazie!
Sounds like a great premise! Congratulations, Harmony, and good luck with the new release! Staci is an awesome host, isn’t she? Excellent review, Staci! Another for my TBR 🙂

I’m sure I ‘ll be picking this one up myself. What is it with families? My wife and kids have never read one of my books either.

I would like to say it’s because my husband doesn’t have time (which he doesn’t—his work schedule is ridiculous), but he’s not a reader. Never has been. Both he and my daughter get headaches from reading, so neither of them read for pleasure. My son used to love to read. Then he got old enough for video games and girls. I haven’t seen a book in his hands since.

Congratulations on the new book, Harmony. And I reckon this is another one I’ll be rushing over to pre-order. Sounds like a diabolical nail-biter to me. Yep. (My nails were getting too long anyway.) Thanks for having Harmony here today, Staci. Great post, ladies. (Oh, and my husband doesn’t read my books, either, Staci. He’s not fond of fiction. 😦 ) Off to preorder, now. 😀
