Happy Friday! What a week, huh? When I was considering this week’s quote, two came to mind.
- If you want to make God laugh, tell him about your plans.
- The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.
I chose this one, instead:
And here’s why.
The first quote, while humorous, makes God sound a bit sadistic. I don’t think He laughs when our plans go awry, especially if His plans for us are why. My best-laid plans this week didn’t come to fruition, and I know it wasn’t funny.
The second was more for when we think we’re helping but situations only get worse. While I would say some of my days this week went to hell, this wasn’t why.
So, I finally chose the Allen Saunders quote. I think it fits best.
My work plans are ambitious but achievable. This is the first time I fell short in a long time, though. I hope to make it up this weekend, but I was looking forward to the time off.
The reason I fell short was because of interruptions to my routine. My daughter was in (yet another) car accident and one of my dogs needed an unexpected procedure, both of which took time away from work. I’m lucky; I work from home. My husband doesn’t, and he wasn’t around to handle these things.
We’re blessed. Our daughter is fine — just a headache which we wanted her to get checked (she just got over a concussion), but she said the pain went away. And our dog does not have cancer, so that’s cause for celebration.
But I posted this not-too-inspirational quote as a reminder. We may have plans, but maybe we should also plan for things to change. Life happened to me this week when my plans fell apart. As it stands, I only lost time. Things could have been a lot worse. So, as this week winds to a close, I’m playing catch-up, but I’m also grateful for my blessings. And I’m going to try to move forward without creating such rigid and lofty goals. I’m forty-seven, for Pete’s sake. It’s time I learn to build in a buffer because, let’s face it, things don’t always go according to plan.

First, oh my god! Another car accident and your poor dog! Second, your third quote is brilliant. I feel EXACTLY that way and today told life to ‘shove it’ so I could work on MY plans for a while. Here’s hoping your plans aren’t dashed by such extreme events in future! 😟👍🤗

I think pure breed dogs are prone to more issues. I have two pure Labs, and each is plagued with different problems. As for my daughter? She’s a menace on the road, but she hasn’t even been driving since January (someone totaled her car — not her fault) and she’s away at school, so we haven’t replaced it yet. I think all parents know no matter how old their kids, something is always happening to cause worry. We’ve weathered this storm; on to the next!
I hope your plans are going well today. I was off to a good start yesterday, then I ended up spending the day in bed with another freaking migraine. Now I’m behind (worse than before), which is why it’s 4:00 a.m. and I’m starting work. lol

Oh boy am I glad I don’t have kids to worry about… the dog is more than enough! I do know where you’re coming from re the migraine though; mine was on Tuesday this month. Urgh. Don’t work too hard today 😔

Migraines. They suck. I was sick on top of that, too. Better today, though. And I made up my missed words, so I’m caught up. Worked 16 hours to do it, but I did it. Now I’m off to bed. I’m beat!

Staci, thank goodness your daughter was okay – it’s such a fright and important to make sure. Has she has been in other car accidents? Phew…I’m happy your dog is well. Time for celebration! Many thanks for all the links – very interesting and lots to read!

My daughter is an accident magnet. I’d have to stop and really think to come up with the exact number, particularly if you count accidents that didn’t require police and car-towing (things like hitting a deer or being sideswiped by a hit-and-run driver). The last two she was in were the most serious. She wasn’t driving either time (although one did involve her car; a friend was driving it because she was sick), and both times the car she was in was hit by another driver. My biggest concern was her head, as she just got over a concussion, but she claims she’s fine. I’m not there to confirm that, so I have to go on her word. Still, she’s my baby—I worry.
Long story short (sorry), she and my dog are doing well, and that’s all I can ask. Thanks. 🙂

My plans often make the oddest turns and then I end up where I intended, just not the way I intended. Good to know your daughter is well.

I think many of us find that to be true. One thing I’ve learned from blogging — I’m not alone. None of us is. We all walk the same roads.
Thanks for the reblog.

I’m very glad your daughter and puppy are okay! Other drivers can be pretty atrocious at times!
Also, thanks for the reshare, I’m working on making my vlog better every week and I hope people find my hard-learned tips helpful!

Thanks, Morgan. She’s called me several times since, and she always sounds bubbly and energetic, so I’m truly convinced she’s fine. The dogling is, too, although he hasn’t called me. lol (Sorry; had to say it.)
Always happy to share great content. Your hard work shows.

Yup, sounds like life intervened. Glad your daughter and dog are okay. My daughter had an accident too. It was minor, but did enough damage she decided to replace her Jeep. It had a bad transmission anyway. Happy Friday the 13th.

Aw, I’m sorry to hear that. Glad she’s fine, though. Happy F13 to you, too!

Glad to hear your daughter is okay. Scary for a parent to go through. Hope you’re able to relax a bit this weekend.

Thanks, Carrie. You’re right — when my kids are sick or injured, I suffer, too. It’s especially hard with her away at school. But she’s fine, and I cling to that.
Wishing you a relaxing weekend, too.

Life happened all over the place for you, but I’m glad everything worked out well in the end. Set-backs happen but they say they strengthen us, too. I hope your weekend goes more smoothly, and I’m so glad your daughter and the pup are okay. That was an excellent quote you chose.
P.S…I had no idea WordPress was going to be changing their editor. Thanks for that link and the others.

I know. I’m nervous about that. I still use the old interface; I don’t like the new one. Now they’re changing the editor, and I’m afraid the old interface will go away. They didn’t ask my opinion, though, so I’m at their mercy.
I thought I’d get an early start to the day, so I went to the store at 5:19 this morning. The store I went to wasn’t open yet, so I had to go to at 24-hour store farther away. They were renovating, so it was a disaster. When I got home, I let the dogs out. Someone opened our gate overnight, and Casey ran away. Had to chase him down. (At least Max was too afraid to leave the yard.) Now I’m tired, sweaty, and in no mood to write. Perfect end to a perfect week. Sigh.
But I’m still counting my blessings. Sammi played two tennis matches yesterday and won both (and they were shut outs!), so I’m confident she’s okay. We got Casey back this morning without incident, and I got them both fed and out before the storms hit. We’re all safe. (I’ll be more comfortable saying that tonight, though.)
Thanks, Mae.

Way to go, Sammi! Those are some amazing victories.
You do know today is Friday the 13th, right? I’d say with everything that happened to you this morning, you’re in the clear for the rest of the day. And—whew!—so glad you got Casey back. You deserve a break!!

I knew today was the 13th. And I knew it was Friday. But I didn’t put the two together.
I’m not really superstitious, but even if I was, I couldn’t think of Friday the 13th as a bad thing. My brother was born on a Friday the 13th!

Happy news on your daughter and dog, and though it’s no consolation, I had one of those weeks, too. Nothing went the way I had planned, and now the hole I’ve been trying to dig out of is even deeper. (I think the last few shovels full of dirt fell back in on my head!) But I agree with you. We have to roll with the punches and keep on plugging away, doing what we can, WHEN we can. And we also have to remember to be grateful for what we have, which is usually WAY more than we realize, unless we stop to count our blessings. Easy to say, but even easier to forget, at times. Glad you are taking stock and doing just that! 🙂
