Author Inspiration and This Week’s Writing Links

2 Important Days

Easter BunnyI hope you all had a nice Easter or Passover. And for those of you following the Eastern Orthodox calendar, wishing you a happy holiday this week.

In addition to the Easter holiday, I had a birthday this week. I don’t have the date on Facebook and try to keep it low key, so don’t worry if you missed it. I only bring it up now for two reasons.

  1. Robert Downey Jr. shares my birthday, although he’s a little older than me. I’m a huge fan of his. HUGE. Every year I wait for my birthday buddy to call me, tell me he’s read and loved my work, and ask to make movies from one or more of my stories. Once again, he has failed me. Now I begin my wait. There’s always next year, right?
  2. Birthdays make us reassess our lives. (Or is it just me?) Which brings me to this week’s inspirational quote:

2 Important Days
I know why I was born. I’ve known since my first pregnancy. I was born to bring my children into this world. To love them and nurture them and help them grow into the wonderful people they’ve become.

And I firmly believe that. My most important purpose is to be a wife and mom. I never thought I was destined for global greatness. (Apparently RDJ doesn’t think so, either. Bummer.)

Doesn’t mean I’m not going to try to leave a mark on the world through my writing, though.

I think people can have more than one purpose. I’ll never be done being a mother, but my kids are adults now. They need me less than they did when they were young. That gives me time to try to improve the world in other ways. And my best shot at doing that is through my words. I’ll never be a powerful orator, a world leader, or a medical genius who cures a horrible disease.

I could write about those kinds of people, though. And so many other heroes.

My gift is to entertain and enlighten through the written word. And when I’m not in mom-mode, I’ll keep trying to do just that. Even if Robert Downey Jr. never makes a movie from my work.

Thanks for sharing the links in one place, too, as I’m WAY behind on everything again, after a week taking care of my grandson. It’s helpful to see everything in one spot when you are trying to catch up. Have a great week ahead! 😀 ❤

      1. I did, indeed, though it’s going to take a couple more days for me to catch my breath. I work at home. Alone. With the kind of quiet solitude most writers long for. I am definitely not used to having a small, very active, five-year-old boy around for a week of events. 😀 But when he said to Mark, “Gramps, you fill my water gun, and I’ll squirt the ants, and we will have a symbiotic relationship,” I had to give a little fist pump! That, plus he could name half of the animals at the zoo (ring-tailed lemur, African crested porcupines, fossa). Yes! A kid who loves animals AND words? Worth every mile I walked with him! 😀

  2. Hahaha, so it’s not just me who believes (hopes) that one day when I make it big as a writer, my favourite Hollywood Stars will call and gush about my writing. 😁
    Anyway, happy birthday and happy Easter and hey, I love your writing!

      I read your birthday post. I love the story behind your name. I chose my grandmother’s middle name for my Confirmation name. I, too, think family names are beautiful.

  6. Happy birthday Staci:) I’m sure next year will be the year for Robert to realize his oversight. Yes, being a mother is an important job I agree. It is nice to get that extra time later explore. Have a great weekend!

  10. Bummer about RDJ. Like you, I’m a HUGE fan and would love to see him portraying one of your characters. One of these days…

    1. Thanks, Nicholas. Most people didn’t know; like I said, I didn’t have the date publicized on Facebook. I must have it on LinkedIn, though. I got a bunch of messages there. And I didn’t even know that was a “thing” on the business site. Learn something new every year, right? 😉
