Today’s prompt is “glaring”. I’m a multi-genre author, but one thing all my characters have in common is conflict. They fight with the enemy, they fight with their friends, they fight with family.
Needless to say, people in my story worlds glare at each other. A lot.
So I went in a different direction for this prompt. Today, I’m including a short excerpt from Out and About (book 2 of the Cathedral Lake series) about the pain of the glaring sun. And the pain lancing Jensen’s heart. (Okay, maybe it’s not exactly glaring, but this is the scene that came to mind when I read the word.)

He lay back against the sun-warmed rock, cradled his head in his hands, and stared at the clouds in the sky. The sun shone through one, backlighting it with a golden halo. The crepuscular rays—Grandma Rose called them the Fingers of God—stretched toward him, beckoning him. For a moment, a fleeting fraction of a second, he thought he saw Hope, her hand reaching toward him. He blinked back the image and took a deep breath. Maybe he wasn’t okay.
“It was a long time ago.”
“It still bothers you.”
He sat up and fidgeted with a blade of grass. “Some things stay with you.”
This post inspired by the WordPress daily prompt: Glaring.
Well rounded characters I’d say

I’m drawn to conflict characters and you write them exceptionally well.
Love the imagery in this excerpt too 🙂
